Getting Deep On Your Healing Journey Other Than Food & Medicine
Roatan Bay, Honduras
When I started my healing journey about ten years ago, no one told me what to include. There weren’t any social media pages to guide me or show which products or medicines worked. Not to mention, endometriosis or any other chronic illness was rarely discussed. It almost was like a secret. I was frustrated with doctors, and I still am, but nowadays, I proceed with caution. I now know that there’s more to the healing journey than surgery and doctor visits. For me, I began to see a significant improvement in my health when I started paying attention to my body beyond what the doctors were telling me. I also realized that my health was in my hands, and it was up to me to work on improvement. We rely heavily on the healthcare system for resources, tools, and support to guide our health, but we must also take an active role. And as a woman who prays, I also know that prayer without works is dead!
Mid February, against my planning, I decided to join my Mom and K on a trip to Honduras. It was completely last minute, but so worth it. Connecting to my mom’s native land and reuniting with cousins gave me the extra boost I needed on the next phase of my healing journey. Also, if you are seriously on a healing journey, go somewhere tropical. The warm weather, clean air, and salt water from the ocean will make you feel so much better. This visit was just the type of vibe I needed. Sometimes you just need to step away and shift your focus from the normal day-to-day things we are used to doing.

Here are some things to consider if you are starting your health journey. Remember to take things day by day.
1. Surround yourself with positive people and practice a spirit of gratitude.
2. Give yourself grace. This means taking things one day at a time and doing the best you can. Start small by making simple tweaks like walking daily or cutting back on sugar.
3. Live in the moment. There is nothing you can do about the past or the future, so try to focus on today, at this exact moment.
4. DO NOT worry about what others think or say. Working on your health can lead to a long, lonely road at times, but trust the process along the way. You will find your people as time goes on.
5. KEEP Going! No one wakes up, and things have changed overnight. Small slip-ups can lead to discouragement. Please do not give up on yourself. No one is coming to save you, so please try to consider making the changes you need to live a healthier lifestyle.
"The race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favor to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all."
